2009 European Parliament Election In Greece
European Parliament elections were held in Greece on 7 June 2009 to elect the 22 Greek members of the European Parliament. Members were elected by party-list proportional representation with a 3% electoral threshold. The number of seats allocated to Greece was reduced from 24 to 22, as a result of new member states joining the European Union (EU). Consistent with EU-wide rules, Greek citizens resident in another of the 26-member states were permitted to vote in the place where they currently reside. Participating parties On 24 May, the Greek Court of Cassation, the country's supreme court, accepted the applications of 27 of the 33 parties which applied to contest the elections. Greek Ecologists
The Greek Ecologists ( el, Έλληνες Οικολόγοι, translit=Ellines Ιkoloyi) (previously Union of Ecologists, el, Ένωση Οικολόγων, translit=Enosi Ιkoloyon) is a Greek "fringe" and "bizarre ecological party". The party's president is Dimosthenis Vergis, a former auto-worker, trade unionist, journalist, and peace activist. Vergis has been described as a "self-styled ecologist" and "a self-styled, modern-day Dionysus – God of wine, revelry and fertility". Vergis usually deploys naked female party workers in his campaigns and has posed nude for campaign posters and pamphlets, flirting "with any female journalist that comes within groping distance". He supports the legalisation of cannabis and unrestricted nudism. Ecologist of Greece ( el, Οικολόγοι Ελλάδας) is a Greek political party based in Athens that was founded in 1988. It is led by Konstantinos Papanikolas. The party publishes the magazine ''Health and Ecology'' (''Υγεία - Οικολογία'') and runs the television station ''Telelight'' (''Τηλεφώς''). It also used to run a radio station in Athens called ''Health and Ecology Radio'' (''Ράδιο Υγεία - Οικολογία'') until 2001, when it was shut down. Panhellenic Macedonian Front
The Panhellenic Macedonian Front ( el, Πανελλήνιο Μακεδονικό Μέτωπο, ΠΑ.Μ.ΜΕ.) is a political party in Greece. It was founded in May 2009 by the politician Stelios Papathemelis and professor Kostas Zouraris to run in the European Parliamentary elections of June with 22 candidates.
