2006–07 Dallas Mavericks Season
The 2006–07 Dallas Mavericks season was the team's 27th in the NBA. The Mavericks entered the season as the runners-up of the 2006 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in six games. They began the season hoping to improve upon their 60–22 output from the previous season. They improved by seven wins, finishing 67–15, claiming the top seed in the Western Conference, and qualifying for the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. In the first round, they met the eight-seeded Golden State Warriors, and lost in six games in a shocking upset. The Mavericks became the third first-seeded team in NBA history to be eliminated by an eighth-seeded team in the playoffs, following the Seattle SuperSonics in 1994, and the Miami Heat in 1999. Avery Johnson
Avery DeWitt Johnson (born March 25, 1965) is an American basketball television commentator and former player and coach who most recently served as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team. He is currently an NBA and college basketball analyst for CBS Sports. Johnson spent 16 years in the National Basketball Association as a player, and subsequently served as the head coach of two NBA teams: the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets. He led the Mavericks to their first NBA Finals appearance and to three consecutive 50+ win seasons. The 2016 NBA playoffs was the postseason tournament of the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s 2015–16 season. The tournament ended with the Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers defeating the defending NBA champion and Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors 4 games to 3 after the Warriors led the series 3 games to 1. In the NBA Finals, LeBron James was named NBA Finals MVP. The Cavaliers swept their first two series and won the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Raptors to become the fourth team in NBA history to open a post-season with 10 straight victories. 2006–07 Denver Nuggets Season
The 2006–07 Denver Nuggets season was the 40th season of the franchise, 31st in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The season is best remembered when Carmelo Anthony made headlines on December 16 when he was involved in a brawl against the Knicks, and as a result was suspended for 15 games. The next day, the Nuggets acquired Allen Iverson from Philadelphia. Anthony and the newly acquired Iverson played their first game together on January 22, 2007 in a game against Memphis. The Nuggets finished the year at 45-37, making the postseason for the fourth straight year. However, they did not make it out of the first round, losing to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs in five games. Anthony and Iverson were voted to play in the 2007 NBA All-Star Game although Iverson did not play due to an injury. This was Anthony's first All-Star game appearance. The 2006–07 Cleveland Cavaliers season was the 37th season of NBA basketball in Cleveland, Ohio. Led by 22-year old forward LeBron James, the Cavaliers finished the season with a 50–32 record, finishing second-place in the Central Division, winning their first Eastern Conference championship, and earning the franchise's first trip to the NBA Finals. The 2006-07 Chicago Bulls season was the 41st season for the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 2006–07 Boston Celtics season was the 61st season of the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Celtics finished 24–58, the second-worst in franchise history after the 15–67 record in 1996–97. The 2006–07 Atlanta Hawks season was the 57th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the 39th in Atlanta. The Hawks had the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft, and selected Shelden Williams out of Duke University. During the offseason, the team signed free agent Speedy Claxton and re-signed former Hawks center Lorenzen Wright. The Hawks got off to a strong start winning four of their first five games. Sam Vincent
James Samuel Vincent (born May 18, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. Vincent won the State of Michigan "Mr. Basketball" award in 1981, the first year the award was given. He attended Lansing's Eastern High School, where he scored 61 points in one game as a senior, breaking the previous city scoring record of 54 set by Magic Johnson at Everett High School. A 6'2" point guard, Vincent followed in the footsteps of his older brother Jay Vincent, attending Michigan State University and earning '' Sporting News'' All-America honors in 1985. After graduating from college, he was selected by the Boston Celtics with the twentieth pick of the 1985 NBA draft. Joe Prunty (born February 12, 1969) is an American professional basketball coach who is the lead assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ronald Jerome "Popeye" Jones (born June 17, 1970) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who serves as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). College career Born in Dresden, Tennessee, Jones played college basketball for Murray State University. He finished his college career as a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, a two-time honorable mention All-America and was named OVC Player of the Year in 1990 and 1991. Bradley Ernest Davis (born December 17, 1955) is an American former professional basketball player who spent the bulk of his National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Dallas Mavericks. He has been associated with the Mavericks for the team's entire existence as either a player, assistant coach or broadcaster.
