2003 Jacksonville Jaguars Season
The 2003 Jacksonville Jaguars season was the franchise's 9th season in the National Football League and the 1st under head coach Jack Del Rio. The Jaguars failed to improve upon their 6–10 regular season record in 2002 and failed to make the playoffs for the fourth season in a row. An 0–8 record in road games eliminated any chance of postseason play. Oddly, despite being in existence since 1995, this season marked the first time that the Jaguars played the San Diego Chargers. This is due to old NFL scheduling formulas in place prior to 2002; the Jaguars had played the Chargers’ division rivals the Kansas City Chiefs four times; the Denver Broncos three times and the Oakland Raiders twice (though not since 1997). Week 3 was Mark Brunell’s last game as a Jaguar, as he was benched forcing rookie quarterback Byron Leftwich to take his spot for the rest of the season. AFC South
The American Football Conference – Southern Division or AFC South is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It was created before the 2002 season when the league realigned divisions after expanding to 32 teams. Since its creation, the division has had the same four members: the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans. Before the 2002 season, the Texans did not exist, the Colts belonged to the AFC East, and the Titans and Jaguars were members of the AFC Central. Mike Peterson
Porter Michael Peterson (born June 17, 1976) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the outside linebackers coach at the University of Florida. He most recently was the outside linebackers coach at the University of South Carolina. Peterson played college football at the University of Florida, where he was a member of a national championship team and earned All-American honors. LaBrandon Toefield
LaBrandon Cordell Toefield (born September 24, 1980) is a former American football running back. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft. He played college football at Louisiana State University. Toefield was also a member of the Carolina Panthers and New York Sentinels. Early years Toefield was born and raised in Independence, Louisiana. He attended Independence High School, where he played for the high school football team under head coach Charles Baglio. Toefield excelled as a sophomore rushing for 1,800 yards and 32 touchdowns. As a junior Toefield lead Independence to the 3A state championship before losing to Evangel Christian Academy. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. George Wrighster
George Frederick Wrighster III (born April 1, 1981) is a former American football tight end. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oregon. Wrighster has also been a member of the New York Giants. Professional career Wrighster was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played six seasons with the team before being released on April 3, 2009. He often showed flashes of greatness, but missed 30 games due to injury. Wrighster was signed by the New York Giants on May 9, 2009 after attending the team's minicamp. He was waived on June 24, 2009. Guard (gridiron Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. Vincent Keoni Manuwai (July 12, 1980 – November 4, 2018) was an American football guard. He was drafted in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played college football for the University of Hawaii Warriors. Early years Manuwai was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Farrington High School in Honolulu, where he earned varsity letters three times each in football and track and field and once in basketball. Rashean Jamil Mathis (; born August 27, 1980) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Bethune–Cookman University, and was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He also played for the Detroit Lions and is regarded as one of the best defensive players in the history of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
