2003 Football Conference Play-off Final
The 2003 Football Conference play-off Final took place on 10 May 2003 and was contested between Dagenham & Redbridge and Doncaster Rovers. It was held at the Britannia Stadium, Stoke-on-Trent and was the inaugural final of the Football Conference playoffs which were introduced to accommodate a second promotion place to the Football League. Match Summary Doncaster had much of the play early on in the match with Tony Roberts in the Daggers goal making a number of good saves, notably from Paul Barnes. Doncaster turned up the pressure and should have taken the lead through Steve Foster, whose header was cleared off the line by John McGrath. However they took a deserved lead when Tim Ryan's cross was headed into the net by Paul Green. 2002–03 Football Conference
The 2002–03 Football Conference season was the 24th season of the Football Conference. Overview This season the number of teams promoted to the Football League Division Three was increased from one to two, and play-offs were introduced to determine the second team to be promoted, along with the Conference champions. The bottom three, as usual, were relegated to either the Northern Premier League, the Southern Premier League or the Isthmian League. Yeovil Town clinched the league title and won promotion to the Football League Division Three. Doncaster Rovers also earned promotion to Division Three following their 3–2 play-off win over Dagenham & Redbridge, during extra time with a sudden death goal in the 110th minute. Dave Morley
David Thomas Morley (born 25 September 1977 in St Helens) is an English former footballer. Morley started his career at Manchester City. He made 20 starts for the club's reserve team in 1996–97, and broke into the senior team for the first time the following season. He made a goalscoring debut against Bury on 12 September 1997, but did not make any further starts for the club, two substitute appearances providing his only other first team action. He subsequently played for Southend, Carlisle (where he scored once against Mansfield Town) and Doncaster Rovers. Garry Hill
Garry Hill is an English football manager who was last the manager of National League club Ebbsfleet United. He previously managed Woking, Heybridge Swifts, St Albans City, Dagenham & Redbridge, Hornchurch, Weymouth and Rushden & Diamonds. Daniel Ronald Louis Hill (born 1 October 1974) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. Ashley Vickers
Ashley James Ward Vickers (born 14 June 1972) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Playing career Born in Sheffield, Vickers began his career as a defender with Sheffield United, but was released at the end of his traineeship and joined non-League Worcester City. He subsequently played for Malvern Town and The 61 Club before joining Heybridge Swifts. Mark Janney
Mark Janney (born 2 December 1977) is an English former football midfielder. He began his career in the youth system at Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and is best remembered for his eight-year spell with Dagenham & Redbridge. Lee Goodwin
Lee Jon Goodwin (born 5 September 1978) is an English former footballer who played for West Ham United and Dagenham & Redbridge as a defender. Career Born in Stepney, London, Goodwin was a trainee at West Ham United, before signing for Dagenham & Redbridge in 1998. He scored the winning goal for Dagenham in a 2–1 victory over Doncaster Rovers after heading the ball in on 67 minutes in March 2001. Sudden Death (sport)
In a sport or game, sudden death (also sudden-death, sudden-death overtime, or a sudden-death round) is a form of competition where play ends as soon as one competitor is ahead of the others, with that competitor becoming the winner. Sudden death is typically used as a tiebreaker when a contest is tied at the end of regulation (normal) playing time or the completion of the normal playing task. An alternative tiebreaker method to sudden death is to play an extra, shortened segment of the game. In association football 30 minutes of extra time (overtime) after 90 minutes of normal time, or in golf one playoff round (18 holes) after four standard rounds (72 holes) are two alternatives. Francis Tierney
Francis Tierney (born 10 September 1975) is an English retired professional footballer who played most notably for Crewe Alexandra and Doncaster Rovers. Tierney came through the famous Crewe Alexandra academy system where he was extremely highly rated by Dario Gradi, and the coaching staff. He played as a winger or striker, and was known for his dribbling skills and technique. Tierney played almost 100 times for Crewe in the bottom two divisions, scoring 11 times. He was an important part of the team that won promotion from League 2 to League 1 in 1994–95, and also played 22 times in the Crewe side that won promotion via the Play-Offs from League 1 to The Championship in 1996–97. Andy Warrington
Andrew Clifford Warrington (born 10 June 1976) is an English former professional footballer and the current first team goalkeeping coach at Derby County. He played as a goalkeeper for York City, Doncaster Rovers, Bury, Rotherham United, Buxton and Grimsby Town.
