The 2000–01 Honduran Liga Nacional was the 36th season in the history of the Honduran top division; this was the third tournament under the Apertura and Clausura format; C.D. Olimpia managed to beat C.D. Platense in the Apertura Final and obtained its 15th league title; in the Clausura C.D. Platense took revenge over C.D. Olimpia and won its 2nd title. Francisco Morazán Department
Francisco Morazán (), FMO is one of the departments of Honduras. It is located in the central part of the nation. The departmental capital is Tegucigalpa, which is also Honduras's national capital. Until 1943 it was known as Tegucigalpa department. It was named after national hero Francisco Morazán. The department is very mountainous, with rugged ranges covered in pine forests; which are rocky and mostly clay. Valleys, like those of Guaimaca, Talanga, and Amarateca, are interspersed among the ranges. Many of the high mountain peaks house cloud forests, like La Tigra National park or Cerro Uyuca. The extreme southeastern portion of the department has a Pacific dry forest environment, while the northern portion contains the ''Montaña de la Flor'', home to the Jicaque people. Atlántida () is a department located on the north Caribbean shore of Honduras, Central America. The capital is the port city of La Ceiba. El Clásico Moderno (The Modern Classic) also referred by some as the Clasico Moderno Hondureño is a Honduran football match played at least 4 times a year in the Honduran Liga Nacional and consists of two teams, Olimpia and Real España. The Clásico Moderno is the most fierce derby played in Honduras. The two "Barras" (MegaBarra and Commando 12 from España and Ultra Fiel from Olimpia) confront themselves with deadly results almost every time they meet. The Clasico Capitalino (Capital's Derby), also known as the local derby played between F.C. Motagua and C.D. Olimpia. These two teams lead the Honduran Football League as most frequent holders of the championship trophy, and their rivalry is the biggest one in the country. Olimpia wears the white uniform, with blue and red highlights. Their mascot is a lion. Olimpia is the oldest team in the league and holds the largest number of championship titles.
