The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Edo State was held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). 2020 Edo State Gubernatorial Election
The 2020 Edo State gubernatorial election occurred on 19 September 2020. Incumbent PDP Governor Godwin Obaseki won re-election for a second term, defeating APC Osagie Ize-Iyamu and several minor party candidates. Obaseki received 57.3% of the vote. Godwin Obaseki emerged unopposed in the PDP gubernatorial primary after all the aspirants stepped down. He picked Philip Shaibu as his running mate. Osagie Ize-Iyamu was the APC candidate with Audi Ganiyu as his running mate. Mabel Oboh was the ADC candidate. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki (born 1 July 1957) is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as the governor of Edo State from 2016 to 2024. Obaseki was elected governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2016 where he defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party. He was sworn in as governor on 12 November 2016. Before becoming governor, he was chairman of the Edo State Economic and Strategy Team inaugurated by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole in March 2009.
