2023 NRFL Leagues
The 2023 NRFL Leagues was the 59th and 57th seasons respectively of the NRFL Championship and NRFL Conference, football competitions in New Zealand. Established in 1965, currently twelve teams compete in the Championship while 8 teams compete in the Northern and Southern sections of the Conference League. Northern League The Northern League sits above the two NRFL Divisions and is also overseen by Northern Region Football, despite being run by New Zealand Football as part of the New Zealand National League. Twelve teams competed in the league – the top ten teams from the previous season and the two teams promoted from the 2022 NRFL Division 1. The promoted teams are West Coast Rangers and Manurewa. This was both Manurewa's first season in the Northern League. West Coast have returned at the first time of asking after being relegated in 2021. Northern Region Football
The Northern Region Football (NRF) is an association football organisation, responsible for local growth and development of the game from Northland to South Auckland South Auckland ( or ) is one of the major geographical regions of Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. Oceania Football Confederation
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. The OFC has little influence in the wider football world, either in terms of international competition or as a source of players for high-profile club competitions. Pakuranga
Pakuranga is an eastern suburb of Auckland, in northern New Zealand. Pakuranga covers a series of low ridges and previously swampy flats, now drained, that lie between the Pakuranga Creek and Tamaki River, two estuary, estuarial arms of the Hauraki Gulf. It is located to the north of Manukau and 15 kilometres southeast of the Auckland CBD. Geography Pakuranga is located on the eastern shores of the Tāmaki River, on a peninsula formed between the river and the Pakuranga Creek to the south. In the 19th Century, inland Pakuranga was a peat wetland, dominated by ''Cordyline australis'' (tī kōuka / cabbage trees). Fencibles United
Fencibles United AFC is an amateur association football club who have gained promotion after winning the league they currently compete in the NRFL Championship. The club is based in Howick/Pakuranga, Auckland. The club's roots go back to Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC. History In 1995, two East Auckland clubs, Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC, amalgamated to form Fencibles United AFC. The adoption of 'Fencibles United AFC' as the name for the club, has recognised the Fencibles as the historic link between the two clubs and identifies with the locality. The Fencibles were the first European settlers in the region. The name 'Fencibles' refers to the Royal New Zealand Fencible Corps. 'Fencible' is derived from the word 'Defencible', meaning capable of defence. Ellerslie, New Zealand
Ellerslie is a suburb of the city of Auckland, in the North Island of New Zealand. Ellerslie lies seven kilometres to the southeast of the city centre, close to State Highway 1. Ellerslie AFC
Ellerslie AFC is an association football club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The senior men's team currently competes in the NRFL Championship. The senior women's team competes in the NRFL Premiership. Club history Ellerslie AFC's history goes back to the original founding of the Auckland Football Association in 1887, whereby it was one of the seven clubs to participate in the Association's inaugural competition. The Club continued into the second season of organised soccer in Auckland, but, like the playing of the game at that time, did not continue past that point. Bay City Park
Bay City Park, is a multi-purpose stadium in the suburb of Oteha in Auckland, New Zealand. It is used for football matches and cricket and is the home stadium of Northern League side East Coast Bays. History In 1991, Bay City Park was opened as the new home of East Coast Bays. In September 2022, FIFA announced that Bay City Park was shortlisted to be a team base camp for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. On 12 December 2022, it was announced Bay City Park would be used as the training ground for the United States during the tournament. As part of being a host venue, Bay City Park received upgrades to the lower fields in order to be up to international standard.
