2023 Jigawa State Gubernatorial Election
The 2023 Jigawa State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Jigawa State, concurrent with elections to the Jigawa State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was later scheduled to hold three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Deputy Governor Umar Namadi held the office for the APC by a margin of 24% over PDP nominee Mustapha Sule Lamido — a businessman and son of former Governor Sule Lamido. Umar Namadi
Umar Namadi (born 7 April 1963) is a Nigerian accountant and politician who is the governor of Jigawa State. He served as the deputy governor of Jigawa State between May 2019 and May 2023. Background Namadi was born on 7 April 1963 in Kafin Hausa, then Northern Region. He became qualified as a chartered accountant in 1993 and holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Bayero University Kano where he earlier obtained his first Degree of Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1987. The two-round system (TRS or 2RS), sometimes called ballotage, top-two runoff, or two-round plurality, is a single-winner electoral system which aims to elect a member who has support of the majority of voters. Dutse
Dutse is the capital city of Jigawa State in northern Nigeria, and also the capital of Dutse Emirate. It is home to Federal University, Dutse established in November 2011.
