2022 Le Castellet Formula 2 Round
The 2022 Le Castellet FIA Formula 2 round was a motor racing event held between 22 and 24 July 2022 at the Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France. It was the ninth round of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship and was held in support of the 2022 French Grand Prix. Driver changes David Beckmann replaced Jake Hughes for the Le Castellet round at Van Amersfoort Racing after Hughes tested positive for COVID-19. Classification Qualifying Logan Sargeant took his second pole position of the season, beating out DAMS driver Ayumu Iwasa by only 0.006 seconds. Frederik Vesti qualified in P3 for the Feature Race right ahead of championship leader Felipe Drugovich, who later was demoted to sixth after his fastest lap time was deleted due to exceeding track limits. Circuit Paul Ricard
The Circuit Paul Ricard () is a French motorsport race track built in 1969 at Le Castellet, Var, near Marseille, with finance from pastis magnate Paul Ricard. Ricard wanted to experience the challenge of building a racetrack. The circuit has hosted the FIA Formula One French Grand Prix intermittently from to , and every year from to as well as from to . History First years (1970–1990) Opened on 19 April 1970, the circuit's innovative facilities made it one of the safest motor racing circuits in the world at the time of its opening. 2022 French Grand Prix
The 2022 French Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula 1 Lenovo Grand Prix de France 2022) was a Formula One motor race held on 24 July 2022 at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France. Going into the race with 2 consecutive wins for Ferrari and a solid qualifying performance that saw him in pole position, championship challenger Charles Leclerc and Ferrari were favoured for the win, which would have reduced their arrears to the championship leader and title holder Max Verstappen. However, Leclerc, who had been leading the race, spun out on lap 18, gifting the win to Verstappen. Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished second and third, respectively, giving the team their first double podium of the season. Calan Williams (born 30 June 2000) is an Australian racing driver who is competing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with BMW M Team WRT. He previously competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Trident, having previously raced for Jenzer Motorsport in the FIA Formula 3 Championship during 2020 and 2021. Marino Sato
is a Japanese racing driver who most recently raced for Virtuosi Racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. He is the 2019 Euroformula Open champion. He is not related to former Formula One driver Takuma Sato. Racing career Formula 4 In 2015, Marino Sato competed in the 2015 Italian F4 Championship for Euronova Racing/Vincenzo Sospiri Racing. Trident Racing is a motor racing team that competes in single-seater formula racing. It was founded in 2006 in order to compete in the GP2 championship, which was Europe's second highest-ranking single-seater formula below Formula One. Richard Verschoor
Richard Verschoor (born 16 December 2000) is a Dutch racing driver set to compete for Van Amersfoort Racing in the Formula 2 Championship. Verschoor graduated to Formula 2 in 2021 with MP Motorsport before switching to Charouz Racing System, after two years in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with MP Motorsport. Verschoor became the first Dutch driver to win the Macau Grand Prix, winning at his first attempt in 2019. Marcus Armstrong
Marcus Cornelius Armstrong (born 29 July 2000) is a New Zealand motor racing driver. He is due to compete in IndyCar on road and street courses with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2023. Previously he competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship between 2020 and 2022. He was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy between 2017 and 2021. Armstrong started single-seaters in 2014, and in the following year won his only single-seater title to date in the 2017 Italian F4 Championship whilst becoming runner-up in the 2017 ADAC Formula 4 Championship. Jüri Vips (born 10 August 2000) is an Estonian professional racing driver, currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Hitech Grand Prix. He is the 2017 ADAC Formula 4 champion, and formerly a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. Career Karting Vips was born in Tallinn and began competitive karting in 2011 in his native Estonia. Jack Doohan (born 20 January 2003) is an Australian race car driver serving as reserve driver for Alpine F1 Team and currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Invicta Virtuosi Racing.
