2021–22 UEFA Champions League Knockout Phase
The 2021–22 UEFA Champions League knockout phase began on 15 February with the round of 16 and ended on 28 May 2022 with the final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France, to decide the champions of the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League. A total of 16 teams competed in the knockout phase. Times are CET/ CEST, as listed by UEFA (local times, if different, are in parentheses). Qualified teams The knockout phase involved the 16 teams which qualified as winners and runners-up of each of the eight groups in the group stage. Format Each tie in the knockout phase, apart from the final, was played over two legs, with each team playing one leg at home. The team that scored more goals on aggregate over the two legs advanced to the next round. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a tie (draw), draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as Overtime (sports)#Association football, extra time (if used) has expired. The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground.
