2009 Men's European Volleyball Championship
2009 Men's European Volleyball Championship was held from September 3 to September 13, 2009 in İzmir and Istanbul, Turkey. Poland claimed their first Men's European Volleyball Championship title with an undefeated run. The final was concluded with a 3-1 victory against France. Bulgaria captured the bronze medal after defeating Russia 3-0. Poland's Piotr Gruszka was named the tournament's most valuable player. Venues The İzmir Halkapınar Sport Hall in İzmir hosted Pools A, C, and E. Istanbul's Abdi İpekçi Arena hosted Pools B, D, and F. İzmir also hosted the Semifinals & Final. Piotr Gruszka
Piotr Łukasz Gruszka (born 8 March 1977) is a Polish professional volleyball coach and former player. He was a member of the Poland national team from 1995 to 2011, and took part in 3 Olympic Games ( Atlanta 1996, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008). Personal life Piotr Gruszka was born in Oświęcim, but raised in Kęty. He is married to Aleksandra (née Szettel). They have two children: daughter Maria Aleksandra (born 26 August 2005) and son named Julian (born 1 March 2010). In 2014, he took part in the 14th season of Polish version of Dancing with the Stars. Paweł Zagumny
Paweł Zagumny (born 18 October 1977) is a Polish former professional volleyball player. Zagumny was a member of the Poland national team from 1996 to 2014 and a participant in 4 Olympic Games ( Atlanta 1996, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012). During his career, he won the 2014 World Champion title, 2012 World League, and the 2009 European Champion title. Personal life Zagumny was born in Jasło, but he grew up in Warsaw, in Ursynów district. He is Hanna and Lech Zagumny's son, his father is a former volleyball player and a coach. Daniel Jorge Castellani (born 21 March 1961) is an Argentine professional volleyball coach and former player. He was a member of the Argentina national team from 1976 to 1988, and a bronze medallist at the Olympic Games Seoul 1988 and the 1982 World Championship.
