2007–08 A1 Grand Prix Of Nations, New Zealand
The 2007–08 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, New Zealand is an A1 Grand Prix race, which was held on 20 January 2008 at the Taupo Motorsport Park, New Zealand. This will be the fifth meeting in the 2007–08 A1 Grand Prix season. Pre-race The Taupo Motorsport Park, Taupo circuit changes one of the circuit's corners. The turn 12 at the end of the longest straight will be much slower with a 90-degree left-hander. A1GP will inaugurate the new changes. It was announced that the Taupo round switch to a 30 per cent biofuel mix. This environmental initiative is the first initiative to help reduce its environmental footprint in motorsport series. The new fuel is an ethanol based-product Hiperflo E30 sourced from sugar beet in Europe and produced by Petrochem Carless. The prediction are a CO2, CO2 emissions reduction by 21% per car. Taupo Motorsport Park
Taupo International Motorsport Park and Events Centre (previously known as the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park) is a motorsports circuit located in Broadlands Road, Taupō, New Zealand. It is owned by Tony Quinn who also owns Highlands Motorsport Park and Hampton Downs Motorsport Park. The circuit was an upgrade from a Taupo Car Club's circuit to the new international layout in 2006. The Motorsport Park was completed in 2006 at the cost of New Zealand Dollar, NZ$13 million. A1 Team Pakistan was the representative team of Pakistan in the former A1 Grand Prix motor racing series. A1 Team USA was the American team of A1 Grand Prix, an international racing series. Management Owner Rick Weidinger became interested in A1 Team USA and the A1 Grand Prix series when national franchises were being bid for the new series. A1 Team New Zealand was the New Zealand team of A1 Grand Prix, an international racing series. Management The team was formed by and is owned by prominent Auckland businessman Colin Giltrap, well known for this car dealerships. The team is managed by Kiwi Bob McMurray who retired last year after nearly 30 years involvement with the McLaren Formula One racing team. Safety Car
In motorsport, a safety car, or a pace car, is a car that limits the speed of competing cars or motorcycles on a racetrack in the case of a ''caution period,'' such as an obstruction on the track or bad weather. The safety car aims to enable the clearance of any obstruction under safer conditions, especially for Motorsport marshal, marshals and/or awaiting more favourable track conditions weather-wise. By following the safety car, the competitors' tyres remain as close as possible to operating temperature while their engines do not overheat. A safety car is also preferred over stopping the race (Red flag (racing), red flag) and restarting, as the latter takes longer. During a caution period, the safety car (which is typically an appropriately modified high-performance production car) enters the track ahead of the leader.
