19th Division (German Empire)
The 19th Division (''19. Division'') was a unit of the Prussian/German Empire, German German Army (German Empire), Army. It was formed on October 11, 1866, and was headquartered in Hannover. The division was subordinated in peacetime to the X Corps (German Empire), X Army Corps (''X. Armeekorps''). The division was disbanded in 1919, during the demobilization of the German Army after World War I. Recruitment During the Franco-Prussian War, the division was a mixed unit, with Hannoverian, Oldenburg and Westphalian elements. It was subsequently reorganized so that it was recruited primarily from the former Kingdom of Hannover, which had become the Prussian Province of Hanover after 1866, along with Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, Oldenburg, a grand duchy mostly surrounded by the Prussian province. The 19th Mechanized Division ( el, 19η Μηχανοκίνητη Μεραρχία) was a mechanized infantry division (military), division of the Hellenic Army, established on 15 January 1941. Its formation was not completed until late March. Its nucleus was the pre-war Mechanized Cavalry Regiment, augmented with captured Italian tankettes and cars, motorcycles and Universal Carriers provided by the British. The 19th Air Division is an inactive United States Air Force formation. Its last assignment was with Eighth Air Force at Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, where it was inactivated on 30 September 1988. During World War II, the unit was designated as IX Bomber Command and was the command and control organization for Ninth Air Force in the Western Desert Campaign. Using predominantly B-24 Liberator heavy and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, it supported the British Eighth Army against the German Afrika Korps from airfields ranging from Mandatory Palestine, Palestine in 1942 across North Africa to the final defeat of German forces in the Tunisia Campaign in May 1943. The 13th Armored Division was an armored division of the United States Army in World War II. History and combat chronicle The division was activated on 15 October 1942 at Camp Beale, east of Marysville, California. The 13th Armored, known as the Black Cats, landed at Le Havre, France, 29 January 1945. After performing occupation duties, the Division moved to Homberg near Kassel to prepare for combat under the Third Army, 5 April. At Altenkirchen, it was attached to the XVIII Airborne Corps and prepared for the Ruhr Pocket operation. The attack jumped off at Honnef, 10 April. The 19th Panzer Division ( en, 19th Tank Division) was an armoured division in the German Army, the Wehrmacht, during World War II. It was created from the 19th Infantry Division. The division fought exclusively on the Eastern Front, except for a brief period of refitting in the Netherlands in mid-1944. It took part in the battles of Moscow and Kursk as well as in the crushing of the Polish uprising at Warsaw. It eventually surrendered to Soviet forces in Czechoslovakia in May 1945.
