Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is a motor racing circuit located near Ventnor, on Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia. The current circuit was first used in 1956. History Road circuit Motor racing on Phillip Island began in 1928 with the running of the 100 Miles Road Race, an event which has since become known as the first Australian Grand Prix. It utilised a high speed rectangle of local closed-off public roads with four similar right hand corners. The course length varied, with the car course approximately per lap, compared to the motorcycle circuit which was approximately in length. Manuel "Sete" Gibernau Bultó (born 15 December 1972) is a Spanish former professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who is a 9-time 500cc/MotoGP race winner and a two-time overall runner-up in and . His racing career spans three different eras of motorcycle racing, beginning with the two-stroke-dominated period prior to the 2002 season, and the four-stroke MotoGP era. Jean-Michel Bayle
Jean-Michel Bayle (born 1 April 1969) is a French former professional motorcycle racer. He was one of the most successful riders of his era, achieving success at the highest levels in both motocross and road racing. Biography Born in Manosque, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Bayle won the FIM 125cc motocross world championship in 1988, and the 250cc motocross world championship a year later. He competed in the United States in 1991, becoming the only rider ever to win all three major AMA motocross championships in the same year (Supercross, 250cc and 500cc). Having won many of the major motocross championships, Bayle became one of the few riders to switch motorcycling disciplines, going from dirt track motocross events to pavement based road race events. Alberto Puig
Alberto Puig (born 16 January 1967) is a Spanish former Grand Prix solo motorcycle professional road racer who is team manager for the Repsol Honda team in MotoGP. Motorcycle racing career Puig had his best year in 1994, when he finished in fifth place in the 500 cc class. In 1995, Puig became the first Spanish competitor to win his home nation's 500 cc Grand Prix when he won the 1995 Spanish Grand Prix. He then scored two more podium results to place himself in third place in the world championship, before he crashed heavily during practice for the 1995 French Grand Prix and broke his left leg, ending his season prematurely. He returned in 1996 but his injuries hindered his progress and he decided to retire at the end of the 1997 season at the age of 30. Kenneth Leroy Roberts Jr. (born July 25, 1973, in Mountain View, California) is an American former professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who won the 2000 FIM Road Racing World Championship, after finishing runner-up in . Roberts Jr. is an 8-time Premier Class race winner. He joins his father Kenny Roberts as the only father-son duo to have won 500cc World Championships. Roberts was inducted into the F.I.M. Kirk Richard McCarthy (18 November 1966 – 15 August 2004), in Melbourne Victoria, Australia, was an Australian motorcycle road racer who competed in several major championships both at home and internationally. He was killed in an Australian Superbike Championship race at Queensland Raceway in 2004. Superbikes McCarthy began racing in the Australian Superbike Championship in 1992, for the Ansett Suzuki team. In 1994 he joined the crack Winfield Honda team, and went on to win the 1995 title. This earned him a factory Superbike World Championship ride with Suzuki for 1996, finishing 13th overall without a podium. Jurgen van den Goorbergh (born 29 December 1969) is a Dutch former professional motorcycle road racer also known as ''The Flying Dutchman''. His son, Zonta van den Goorbergh, is also a motorcycle racer and currently competes in Moto2. Doriano Romboni (8 December 1968 in Lerici, Italy – 30 November 2013 in Latina, Italy) was an Italian Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Career Romboni raced in 125cc and 250cc World Championship races on Hondas. In 1996 he rode for the Aprilia factory in the 500cc class aboard a bike with a V-twin, 250cc engine that had been enlarged to 380cc. Aprilia tried to take advantage of the bike's lightweight and agility against their more powerful competition. Romboni managed to finish in 10th place in the 1997 season before Aprilia withdrew the project. He raced for the MuZ team in one race in the 1998 season. In 1999 he switched to the Superbike World Championship on a private Ducati. He was a frontrunner in the early races.
