Music Of Norway
Much has been learned about early music in Norway from physical artifacts found during archaeological digs. These include instruments such as the lur. Viking and medieval sagas also describe musical activity, as do the accounts of priests and pilgrims from all over Europe coming to visit St Olaf's grave in Trondheim. In the later part of the 19th century, Norway experienced economic growth leading to greater industrialization and urbanization. More music was made in the cities, and opera performances and symphony concerts were considered to be of high standards. In this era both prominent composers (like Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen) and performers combined the European traditions with Norwegian tones. The import of music and musicians for dance and entertainment grew, and this continued in the 20th century, even more so when gramophone records and radio became common. Morten Halle
Morten Halle (born 7 October 1957) is a Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone), composer and music arranger. He was born in Oslo, and he is known from the city's jazz scene and from a series recordings. (in Norwegian) Career Halle participated in various small bands at the Oslo Jazz scene in the late 1970s, when he studied music at the University of Oslo 1981–86, he was with the band Cutting Edge, and from 1987 in a quartet with John Eberson (guitar), Bjørn Kjellemyr (bass), and Finn Sletten/ Pål Thowsen (drums). He has also played with the big band Oslo 13, with Knut Værnes Band, Jon Balke, Søyr, Chipahua and Geir Holmsen Band. He has been in the lineups of Jazzpunkensemblet, Desafinado, Horns for Hire with Torbjørn Sunde and Jens Petter Antonsen, Jon Balke's Magnetic North Orchestra, Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble, Søyr and Metropolitan (band). Norway In The Eurovision Song Contest 1995
Norway's entry into the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 was " Nocturne" by Secret Garden. It went on to win that year's Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, marking Norway's second first-place finish in its history in the Contest. Before Eurovision Melodi Grand Prix 1995 Competing entries Semi-finals Nine semi-finals were held weekly between 14 January and 18 March 1995. Two songs competed in each semi-final with the winner from each semi-final qualifying for the final, along with one of the losing songs which were given wildcards. Final The final was held at the studios of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in Oslo, hosted by Petter Nome. Ten songs took part with the winner being chosen by voting from regional juries, a jury based in Dublin consisting of previous Irish ESC winners and televoting. Celine Helgemo
Celine Solemsløkk Helgemo (born 31 August 1995) is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. She won a Norwegian song competition for kids MGPjr 2007 with her song "Bæstevænna" (translated as ''best friends'') when she was 12 years old, and has released a platinum-certified album. Helgemo comes from Orkdal, near Trondheim. She goes to a local dance school, takes singing lessons and has performed in local plays with her friend. Helgemo likes to compose songs, and her winning song in MGP Nordic is about her best friend Astrid Smeplass. She represented Norway in MGP Nordic 2007 after winning the local Norwegian qualifying competition '' Melodi Grand Prix Junior 2007'' Helgemo also released an album of original songs just before the MGP Nordic final. One of the songs is a duet with her best friend Astrid. The album got a platinum certification in a month after its release. Malin Reitan
Malin (born Malin Reitan; 8 August 1995 in Trondheim, Norway) is a Norwegian singer. She finished 3rd in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with her song "''Sommer og skolefri''". She is also a recording artist with several released albums. Malin sings in her regional dialect. Biography Malin's career as a singer started when she was nine years old. She auditioned for the Norwegian selection for JESC 2005, the Melodi Grand Prix Junior 2005, and she was selected to sing among ten contestants in the final show. Her song was too short though, so she had to write one more verse for it on the way home from the audition. After surprising herself by winning MGP Jr by a landslide, she went on a summer concert tour, singing at festivals and on television shows. In November, she performed in the JESC 2005 in Hasselt, Belgium and finished 3rd, the best position for Norway so far. is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. Leif Juster
Leif Juster (born Leif Normann Nilsen) (14 February 1910 – 25 November 1995) was a Norwegian comedian, singer and actor, arguably the most popular of his generation in Norway. Juster started out as a variety show performer, and for a period he ran the theater ''Edderkoppen''. Characterised by his unusually tall, lanky figure and squeeky voice, his signature act was the monologue "''Mot normalt''". He also acted in several successful comedies on the big screen, notably '' Den forsvundne pølsemaker'' (1941), ''Det æ'kke te å tru'' (1942), ''En herre med bart'' (1942) and ''Fjols til fjells ''Fjols til fjells'' or ''Fools in the Mountains'' is a Norwegian situation comedy film released in 1957.
