1993 Hall Of Fame Bowl
The 1993 Hall of Fame Bowl featured the 16th-ranked Boston College Eagles, and the 17th-ranked Tennessee Vols. It was the seventh edition to the Hall of Fame Bowl. The game marked the first for the Vols under new head coach Phillip Fulmer, replacing Johnny Majors after his resignation. Tennessee scored first after quarterback Heath Shuler scored on a 1-yard touchdown run making the score 7–0 Tennessee. Shuler fired a 27-yard touchdown pass to Corey Fleming, as Tennessee led 14–0 after the first quarter. Southeastern Conference
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is an American college athletic conference whose member institutions are located primarily in the South Central and Southeastern United States. 1992 Tennessee Volunteers Football Team
The 1992 Tennessee Volunteers football team represented the University of Tennessee in the 1992 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Volunteers were a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), in the Eastern Division and played their home games at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. They finished the season with a record of nine wins and three (9–3 overall, 5–3 in the SEC) and with a victory over Boston College in the Hall of Fame Bowl. The Volunteers offense scored 347 points while the defense allowed 196 points. Johnny Majors was to enter his sixteenth season as the Volunteers' head coach for the 1992 season. However, in August, Majors underwent emergency quintuple bypass surgery, and as a result Phillip Fulmer was named interim head coach. Glenn Foley
Glenn Foley (born October 10, 1970) is a former American football quarterback. He played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the New York Jets from 1994 to 1998 and the Seattle Seahawks in 1999 and in the Arena Football League with the New Jersey Gladiators in 2002. Early life Foley played high school football at Cherry Hill High School East in his hometown of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Boston College Foley attended Boston College and played for the Boston College Eagles football team. In 1993, he led the Eagles in a 41–39 upset over previously undefeated Notre Dame and a victory over Virginia Cavaliers in the 1994 Carquest Bowl. Johnny Majors
John Terrill Majors (May 21, 1935June 3, 2020) was an American professional football player and college coach. A standout halfback at the University of Tennessee, he was an All-American in 1956 and a two-time winner of the Southeastern Conference Most Valuable Player award, in 1955 and 1956. He finished second to Paul Hornung in voting for the Heisman Trophy in 1956. After playing one season in the Canadian Football League (CFL), Majors became a college assistant coach. He served as the head coach at Iowa State University (1968–1972), the University of Pittsburgh (1973–1976, 1993–1996), and Tennessee (1977–1992), compiling a career college football record of 185–137–10. The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports.
