1994 ARFU Asian Rugby Championship
The 1994 ARFU Asian Rugby Championship was the 14th edition of the tournament, and was played in Kuala Lumpur. It also doubled up as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 1995 Rugby World Cup. The eight teams were divided in two pools with a round robin played in each. The top teams in each pool then played off in the final to decide the tournament winner. Japan won the competition, defeating South Korea by 26–11 in the final, and subsequently represented Asia in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. ARFU. The competition was originally known as the Asian Rugby Football Tournament when founded in 1969, and was called the Asian Five Nations from 2008 to 2014. The winner of the competition's top division is recognised as the rugby champion of Asia. The top division, sometimes referred to as the Tri Nations, includes the top three Asian teams each season. Division 1 includes the next four teams and Division 2 includes the next four. Division three is further divided geographically, with each of the West, East and South Central divisions including three teams. The Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU; ja, 日本ラグビーフットボール協会, ''Nihon Ragubi- Futtobo-ru Kyo-kai'') is the governing body for rugby union in Japan. It was formed 30 November 1926, and organises matches for the Japan national rugby union team, Japan national team. The JRFU is currently one of only two federations from outside the Rugby Union Six Nations Championship, Six Nations and The Rugby Championship with a seat on the executive council of World Rugby, the sport's international governing body (the other is Rugby Canada). The Japan national rugby union team, often known as the Cherry Blossoms, Sakura, and more recently The Brave Blossoms (''ブレイブ・ブロッサムズ - Bureibu burossamuzu'') is traditionally the strongest rugby union power in Asia and has enjoyed and endured mixed results against non-Asian teams over the years.
