Binion's Horseshoe
Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel, formerly Binion's Horseshoe, is a casino on Fremont Street along the Fremont Street Experience mall in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned by TLC Casino Enterprises. The casino is named for its founder, Benny Binion, whose family ran it from its founding in 1951 until 2004. The hotel, which had 366 rooms, closed in 2009. TLC reopened 81 of the rooms as a boutique hotel called Hotel Apache in July 2019. History Binion's Horseshoe (1951–2004) Benny Binion bought the Eldorado Club and Hotel Apache in 1951, re-opening them as Binion's Horseshoe (also called the Horseshoe Casino). The casino's interior had a frontier flavor, like an old-style riverboat, with low ceilings and velvet wallpaper. Artie Cobb
Artie Cobb (born November 17, 1942) is an American professional poker player, based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cobb began playing poker in New York, where he is originally from, and would later move to Las Vegas in 1976. Poker career Cobb has won four bracelets at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), three of them in seven-card stud. To date, only one player has made more in WSOP stud events than Cobb. He won his first bracelet in the 1983 WSOP $1,000 seven card stud event Hi-Lo event, defeating David Singer during the heads-up play. This was Cobb's first cash in any WSOP event. Byron Wolford
Byron Wolford (September 14, 1930 – May 13, 2003), also known as Cowboy Wolford, was an American rodeo cowboy and professional poker player, who was the winner of a World Series of Poker bracelet in 1991 and runner-up in the 1984 World Series of Poker Main Event. Wolford cashed in various events at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), including the Main Event. He achieved his highest Main Event showing in 1984 when he finished as runner-up to Jack Keller. For his second-place finish, Wolford won $264,000. Over the years, Wolford made the final tables in other events at the WSOP, finishing in second place on several occasions. Christer "Chris" Björin is a Swedish professional poker player, now based in London, England. Throughout his career, Björin has kept a relatively low profile and avoided many televised poker tournaments and interviews. An Tran (born July 29, 1952) is a Vietnamese-American professional poker player, now living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Poker career Tran began playing poker in the mid-1970s and first finished in the money of a World Series of Poker (WSOP) event in 1989 in the $2,000 no limit hold 'em event. In the same year he finished 24th in the $10,000 no limit hold'em main event. Tran has made numerous final tables since then, and won a WSOP bracelet in the 1991 $1,500 pot limit Omaha event, defeating Chris Björin in the final heads-up confrontation. Jay B. Heimowitz (born December 26, 1937) is an American poker player from Bethel, New York. Heimowitz was one of the original players to help establish the Mayfair Club as a premier poker house. Heimowitz started playing poker for baseball cards at the age of 9. He went on to join the U.S. Army; by the time he left the service at age 21, Heimowitz had won approximately $10,000 playing against his fellow servicemen. Heimowitz used this money to invest in a beer company, which he later sold to Budweiser. Heimowitz has attended the World Series of Poker (WSOP) since 1975 and has won six bracelets: Heimowitz is one of only three players, the other two being Phil Hellmuth and Billy Baxter, in World Series of Poker history to have won a bracelet in four different decades.
