1982 Los Angeles Raiders Season
The 1982 Los Angeles Raiders season was the team's 23rd season, 13th season in the National Football League, and first of thirteen seasons in Los Angeles. In May 1982, a verdict was handed down against the NFL in the lawsuit brought by the Raiders and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1980. The jury ruled that the NFL violated antitrust laws when it declined to approve the proposed move by the team from Oakland to Los Angeles. The Raiders promptly moved to Los Angeles although for the 1982 season the team continued to practice in Alameda. Despite the Raiders' disappointing 7–9 record in their previous season—their last in Oakland until 1995—the Raiders cruised to an 8–1 record in the strike-shortened 1982 season, winning all four of their home games, and clinching home-field advantage throughout the NFL's makeshift playoff tournament for 1982. American Football Conference
The American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the United States. The AFC and its counterpart, the National Football Conference (NFC), each contain 16 teams with 4 divisions. Both conferences were created as part of the 1970 merger between the National Football League, and the American Football League (AFL). All ten of the AFL teams, and three NFL teams, became members of the new AFC, with the remaining thirteen NFL teams forming the NFC. A series of league expansions and division realignments have occurred since the merger, thus making the current total of 16 teams in each conference. 1982 New York Jets
The 1982 New York Jets season was the 23rd season for the franchise and its 13th in the National Football League. It began with the team trying to improve upon its 10–5–1 record from 1981 and return to the playoffs under head coach Walt Michaels. The season was marred by an eight-week players’ strike, cancelling eight scheduled games (one game was made up at the end of the season), and eliminating divisional play for the season; the top eight teams from each conference advanced to the playoffs. The Jets finished the season with a record of 6–3 in sixth place in the American Football Conference. Ed Muransky
Edward William "Ed" Muransky (born January 20, 1960) is a former professional American football offensive tackle who played for the Los Angeles Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) and Orlando Renegades of the United States Football League (USFL). He was a member of the Super Bowl XVIII Champion Raiders. Prior to this he was an All-American and Academic All-American athlete who played for the University of Michigan Wolverines during the 1979– 1981 seasons. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen.
