1981 Dallas Cowboys Season
The 1981 Dallas Cowboys season was their 22nd in the league. The team matched their previous output of 12–4, winning their fifth division title in six years. They lost the Conference Championship game for the second straight season. The season began with four straight victories, followed by two losses (including a surprising 45–14 blowout loss to the 49ers in week six). The Cowboys rebounded to win 8 of their last 9 games to clinch the NFC East but had to settle for the conference's number two seed behind the 49ers. Douglas Max Donley (born February 6, 1959) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. He was selected in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State University. Vincent Scott Skillings (born May 3, 1959) is a former American football cornerback in the Canadian Football League for the Montreal Alouettes and Montreal Concordes. He played college football at Ohio State University. Early years Skillings attended Derry High School, where he practiced football and track. He was a two-way player at running back and cornerback. Derald Lawrence Nelson (born February 8, 1958 in York, Nebraska) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League for the San Diego Chargers. He played college football at the University of Nebraska. Early years Nelson attended Fairmont Public School where he received All-State honors in football. He also lettered in baseball as a pitcher. He walked on at the University of Nebraska. He became a starter at the stand-up defensive end position as a sophomore, registering 42 tackles (20 solo), 3 fumble recoveries, one interception and one blocked a punt. Scott John Pelluer (April 28, 1959 – June 26, 2023) was an American professional football player who was a linebacker for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Washington State Cougars and coached at several collegiate programs. Early years Born in Yakima, Washington, Pelluer attended Mead High School north of Spokane, then moved in 1975 with his family to Bellevue, a suburb east of Seattle.
