1981 Buffalo Bills Season
The 1981 Buffalo Bills season was the franchise's 12th season in the National Football League, and the 22nd overall. The season's most memorable moment was probably a Hail Mary catch against the New England Patriots in Week Twelve. The 36-yard touchdown pass from Bills quarterback Joe Ferguson to running back Roland Hooks as time expired won the game for Buffalo, 20–17. The win proved to be crucial in giving Buffalo the final playoff spot in the AFC in 1981.Had the Bills lost the game, the last wild card spot would have gone to 10–6 Denver, whom the Bills beat out for the spot by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker. The American Football Conference – Eastern Division or AFC East is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Chris Williams (defensive Back)
Chris Albany Williams (born January 2, 1959) is a former American football player who played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills for three seasons. He was selected by the Bills in the second round of the 1981 NFL draft. He had three interceptions and a fumble recovery in his professional career, all in 1983, in which he played in all 16 regular season games. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive handoffs from the quarterback to rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and block. Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rapid-onset muscle weakness caused by the immune system damaging the peripheral nervous system. Booker Moore
Booker Thomas Moore (June 23, 1959September 20, 2009) was an American football running back. Moore set six high school records in football while attending Flint Southwestern Academy in Flint, Michigan. As a member of the Penn State Nittany Lions, Moore rushed for 2,072 yards and 20 touchdowns from 1977 to 1980, and played for a national championship in the 1979 Sugar Bowl versus Alabama. Moore was selected in the first round by the Buffalo Bills in the 1981 NFL Draft. He played four seasons for the Bills, appearing in 51 games from 1982 to 1985. Moore did not start in his rookie season, but he did managed to rush for 38 yards on 16 attempts. In his second season he started 11 games for the Bills. The 1988 Buffalo Bills season was the franchise's 29th overall season as a football team and the 19th in the National Football League. The Bills ended a streak of four consecutive losing seasons by winning the AFC East; they finished the NFL's 1988 season with a record of twelve wins and four losses; it was the club's first winning season since 1981, its first 12-win season since the 1964 AFL championship season, and only the fifth double-digit win season in team history. 1986 Buffalo Bills Season
The 1986 Buffalo Bills season was the franchise's 17th season in the National Football League, and the 27th overall. Although the Bills were only 2–6 at the midway point of the season, their games were much more competitive than in years past. (Only two of their losses in the first eight games were by more than a touchdown.) Still, after a 6-point Week Nine loss to Tampa Bay, the Bills fired coach Hank Bullough, and hired former Kansas City coach Marv Levy to replace him. Robb Riddick
Robbert Lee Riddick (born April 26, 1957) is a former American football running back in the NFL who played for the Buffalo Bills. He played college football at Millersville University, as a running back and defensive back. He set numerous of the school's records in football as well as track and field. Riddick was drafted by the Bills in the ninth round, 241st overall, of the 1981 NFL Draft. Riddick played six seasons for the Bills. He started eight games and ran for 632 total yards in 1986, and he became a short-yardage specialist in 1988. He sat out the 1982 and 1985 seasons after sustaining injuries to his right knee during training camp. Riddick's first 100-yard rushing game of his career helped Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy record his first win as the Bills new coach on November 9, 1986. Joe Cribbs
Joe Stanier Cribbs (born January 5, 1958) is a retired National Football League and United States Football League football running back. He played collegiately at Auburn University along with future NFL backs William Andrews and James Brooks. He began his professional career in 1980 with the Buffalo Bills. After being drafted in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft, Cribbs went on to start all 16 games of his rookie year with Buffalo, finishing with 1185 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. His performance earned him consensus UPI AFC Rookie of the Year honors and a spot in the Pro Bowl, the only rookie chosen as a starter that year. Jerry Butler (American Football)
Jerry O'Dell Butler (born October 12, 1957 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina) is a former professional American football wide receiver in the National Football League. He played his entire career with the Buffalo Bills (1979–1986). Butler was a Pro Bowl selection in 1980. In his career, he caught 278 receptions for 4,301 yards and 29 touchdowns. On September 23, 1979, Butler had 255 receiving yards and 4 touchdown catches (5 yds, 75 yds, 74 yds, 9 yds) in the Bills 46-31 win over the New York Jets in Week 4. Butler coached wide receivers in 1999 and 2000 for Cleveland, then served as Director of Player Development for the Cleveland Browns until his contract ended in 2011.
