1977 Formula Atlantic Season
The 1977 CASC Formula Atlantic Labatts Championship Series season was contested over 7 rounds. In this one-make engine formula all drivers had to use Ford engines. 39 different drivers competed in 5 different chassis. Calendar Final points standings Driver For every race the points were awarded: 30 points to the winner, 24 for runner-up, 19 for third place, 15 for fourth place, 12 for fifth place, 10 for sixth place, 9 for seventh place, winding down to 1 point for 15th place. Atlantic Championship
The Atlantic Championship is a formula race car series with races throughout North America. It has been called Champ Car Atlantics (after its former name), Toyota Atlantics (due to the series' previous history of using Toyota-powered engines), or just Atlantics or Formula Atlantic, although the latter two terms risk confusion with the Sports Car Club of America's amateur Formula Atlantics division. Starting in 2012, the series was revived with SCCA Pro Racing sanction by Formula Race Promotions, with the series last raced in 2009 under IMSA sanction. FRP switched to USAC sanctioning in 2017. However, in 2019 FRP regained control of the series with backing from SCCA Pro Racing. Bill Brack
William Brack (born 26 December 1935) is a Canadian former racing driver. Brack raced in Formula One and the Atlantic Championship. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Brack originally became involved in auto racing in the early 1960s, in the form of ice-racing Minis (using a company car) in Huntsville, Ontario. He went on to purchase Gordon Brown's own racing Mini (Gord Brown being another Mini racer as well as dealer of British cars at Glendale Suburban Motors in Brampton.) Brack subsequently became a Formula One driver who raced for the Lotus and BRM teams. After Formula One he was successful in Atlantic Championship in the mid-1970s, having won the Canadian Formula Atlantic Championships in three successive years (1973, 1974, 1975) before retiring from racing to open a Daimler Chrysler dealership (Downtown Chrysler) near the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Scott Hansen (born June 17, 1955) is an American stock car driver from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Now retired, Hansen primarily competed in the American Speed Association. He raced for several years in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Busch Series. Background Hansen grew up in a racing family as his father Rollie Hansen was a race car driver and the flagman in the 1960s at the Brown County fairgrounds at De Pere, Wisconsin. Racing career Local driver Hansen won five late model track championships at the Wisconsin International Raceway between 1985 and 1989. Frederic Barry Opert (25 May 1939 – 9 August 2016), known as "Fred", was an American racing driver, car dealer, and founder and owner of the Fred Opert Racing team. As a driver, Opert's race entries included the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. His team, Fred Opert Racing, fielded many notable Formula 1 drivers early in their careers including future Formula One World Champions Keke Rosberg, Alan Jones and Alain Prost, as well as future IndyCar champion Bobby Rahal. Doug Shierson Racing is a former racing team that competed in the Champ Car, CART Championship Car Series from 1982 to 1990. The team was sponsored by Domino's Pizza for its entire run in CART. Shierson Racing's biggest victory came at the 1990 Indianapolis 500, with driver Arie Luyendyk. The team finished runner-up in the Champ Car, CART championship in 1985 IndyCar season, 1985 with driver Al Unser Jr. losing the title by one point. Ralt was a manufacturer of single-seater racing cars, founded by ex-Jack Brabham associate Ron Tauranac after he sold out his interest in Brabham to Bernie Ecclestone. Ron and his brother had built some specials in Australia in the 1950s under the Ralt name (standing for Ron and Austin Lewis Tauranac). March Engineering was a Formula One constructor and manufacturer of customer racing cars from the United Kingdom. Although only moderately successful in Grand Prix competition, March racing cars enjoyed much better success in other categories of competition, including Formula Two, Formula Three, IndyCar and IMSA GTP sportscar racing. 1970s March Engineering began operations in 1969. Its four founders were Max Mosley, Alan Rees, Graham Coaker and Robin Herd. The company name is an acronym of their initials.
