1954 California Gubernatorial Election
The 1954 California gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 1954. Incumbent Republican Party (United States), Republican governor Goodwin Knight, who had ascended to the office after Earl Warren resigned to become Chief Justice of the United States the previous year, won the election to serve his sole term as Governor of California. Goodwin Knight
Goodwin Jess "Goodie" Knight (December 9, 1896 – May 22, 1970) was an American politician who served as the List of governors of California, 31st governor of California from 1953 until 1959. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, he previously was the List of lieutenant governors of California, 35th lieutenant governor of California from 1947 to 1953 under Earl Warren. Upon Warren's appointment as Chief Justice of the United States by President Dwight D.
