1937 Washington Redskins Season
The Washington Redskins season was the franchise's 6th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their first in Washington, D.C. The Boston Redskins moved to Washington after their runner-up 1936 season and became the Washington Redskins. In 1937 they repeated as Eastern Division champions and played the NFL championship game on the road against the Chicago Bears at Wrigley Field. The Redskins won the championship game, 28–21. TCU Horned Frogs Football
The TCU Horned Frogs football team represents Texas Christian University (TCU) in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Horned Frogs play their home games in Amon G. Carter Stadium, which is located on the TCU campus in Fort Worth. In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. Richard Joseph Bassi (January 1, 1915 – August 12, 1973) was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team's head football coach was Wesley Fry, in his second year at the helm of the Wildcats. The Wildcats played their home games in Memorial Stadium. Maurice "Red" Elder (March 21, 1916 – August 14, 2011) was an American football and baseball coach. He served as the head football coach at Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) from 1946 to 1951. Elder was a fullback at Kansas State University in the mid–1930s, where he played on the conference champion 1934 Kansas State Wildcats football team. 1936 Santa Clara Broncos Football Team
The 1936 Santa Clara Broncos football team represented Santa Clara University as an independent during the 1936 college football season. In their first season under head coach Buck Shaw, the Broncos compiled an 8–1 record with five shutouts, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 139 to 36. In the final AP Poll released in late November, Santa Clara was sixth. The Broncos' victories included a besting of Stanford, a victory over Saint Mary's and a victory over undefeated and second-ranked LSU in the third Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. The team's lone setback was a shutout loss to (with Sammy Baugh) at Kezar Stadium on December 12. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. Nello Donald Falaschi (March 19, 1913 – July 29, 1986) was an American football player in the National Football League for the New York Giants. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Early life Falaschi was born in Dos Palos, California and played high school football at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, California. College career After high school, Falaschi attended and played college football at Santa Clara University, where he played quarterback. 1936 TCU Horned Frogs Football Team
The 1936 TCU Horned Frogs football team represented Texas Christian University (TCU) in the 1936 college football season. The team was coached by Dutch Meyer in his third year as coach, finishing the season 9–2–2 (4–1–1 SWC). Led by senior quarterback Sammy Baugh, the offense scored 160 points, while the defense allowed 58 points. The Frogs defeated Marquette in the inaugural Cotton Bowl Classic, played in Dallas. The final AP poll was released in late November and TCU was sixteenth; they then defeated #6 Santa Clara on December 12, and #20 Marquette on New Year's Day.
