The 1913 Championship of Australia was an Australian rules football match that took place on 8 October 1913. The championship was contested by the premiers of the VFL, Fitzroy and the premiers of the SAFL, Port Adelaide. The match was played at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, South Australia. The match, played in front of 6,000, was won by Port Adelaide by a margin of 63 points, giving Port Adelaide its 3rd Championship of Australia Title. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. Chris Lethbridge
Christopher Francis Lethbridge (24 May 1890 – 25 March 1970) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the VFL. Family The son of Christopher Montague Lethbridge (1852-1906), and Alice Maud Lethbridge (-1922), née Emmerson, Christopher Francis Lethbridge was born in Brighton East on 24 May 1890. The family moved to Wagga Wagga in New South Wales very early in his life. He married Bertha Lillian White (1893-1974) on 18 March 1916. Football Lethbridge was originally from New South Wales and played in defence for Fitzroy. Granted a clearance from Y.M.C.A. Sydney on 23 May 1913, he made his debut, against South Melbourne, on 7 June 1913; and was a member of Fitzroy's premiership side that year. Harold Oliver (Australian Footballer)
William Harold Oliver (12 August 1891 – 15 November 1958) was an Australian rules footballer. Harold Oliver was a key player to some of South Australian football's most successful teams. He starred in South Australia's victorious 1911 Australian football championship along with Port Adelaide's 1914 "Invincibles" team. After being close to retiring from the game after World War I, he returned to captain both Port Adelaide to the 1921 SAFL premiership and South Australia in a game against Western Australia. James Sinclair Dickson (2 March 1884 – 3 January 1961) was an Australian rules footballer for the Port Adelaide Football Club. Football Sinclair Dickson was a member of three Port Adelaide premiership teams in the South Australian Football League. He also won the Port Adelaide best and fairest in consecutive years in 1908 and 1909. Sinclair Dickson was runner up for the 1909 Magarey Medal. Dickson represented South Australia on seven occasions between 1908 and 1910. Sinclair Dickson served as the treasurer of the Port Adelaide Football Club during the 1920s. Frank Ivor Hansen (4 February 1884 – 5 May 1975) was an Australian Rules footballer who played for and in the South Australian National Football League, South Australian Football League. Early life He was the son of James Hansen and Briget Neesen, Norwegian and Scottish immigrants. South Adelaide Frank Hansen debuted for South Adelaide in the 1903 SAFL season. Angelo Nicholas Goucar Congear (5 May 1885 – 9 August 1986) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League between 1908 and 1922. Junior football (1902–1908) Congear started playing football in 1902 with the Australs Football Club. In 1908 he started playing for Semaphore Centrals, an affiliate of the Port Adelaide Football Club who he would debut for later that year.
