1982 Mannheim Attack
On 10 July 1982, a 20-year-old United States Army soldier drove a stolen U.S. Army M60 tank through downtown Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, West Germany. Four people were injured and the soldier, whose motive remains unknown, died by drowning in a nearby river. The property damage amounted to around 2 million West German Deutsche Mark (DM). Keefer, a mentally ill 20-year-old U.S. soldier from Berwick, Pennsylvania, stole an M60 tank parked in the Sullivan Barracks in Mannheim at around 2 p.m. on 10 July 1982, and drove it uncontrollably into the Mannheim city center for about 45 minutes. M60 Tank
The M60 is an American second-generation main battle tank (MBT). It was officially standardized as the Tank, Combat, Full Tracked: 105-mm Gun, M60 in March 1959. Although developed from the M48 Patton, the M60 tank series was never officially christened as a Patton tank. It has been called a "product-improved descendant" of the Patton tank's design. The design similarities are evident comparing the original version of the M60 and the M48A2. The United States fully committed to the MBT doctrine in 1963, when the Marine Corps retired the last ( M103) heavy tank battalion. The M60 tank series became the American primary main battle tank during the Cold War, reaching a production total of 15,000 M60s. Neckar River
The Neckar () is a river in Germany, mainly flowing through the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, with a short section through Hesse. The Neckar is a major right tributary of the Rhine. Marvin Heemeyer
Marvin John Heemeyer (October 28, 1951 – June 4, 2004) was an American automobile muffler repair shop owner who demolished numerous buildings with a modified bulldozer in Granby, Colorado, in June 2004. Heemeyer's machine was posthumously nicknamed the Killdozer. Heemeyer held various grudges against town officials, neighbors of his muffler shop, the local press, and other Granby residents. Over about eighteen months, Heemeyer secretly armored a Komatsu D355A bulldozer with layers of steel and concrete. On Friday, June 4, 2004, Heemeyer used the bulldozer to demolish the Granby town hall, the house of a former mayor, and several other buildings. He killed himself after the bulldozer became stuck in a hardware store he was destroying. No one else was injured or killed. 2025 Mannheim Car Attack
On 3 March 2025, a car was driven into a crowd at , a popular pedestrian area in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The collision resulted in two fatalities and injuries to 14 individuals.
