1921–22 Blackpool F.C. Season
The 1921–22 season was Blackpool F.C.'s 21st season (eighteenth consecutive) in the Football League. They competed in the 22-team Division Two, then the second tier of English football, finishing nineteenth. Harry Bedford was the club's top scorer, with twelve goals (eleven in the league and one in the FA Cup). Season synopsis An opening-day victory, at home to Derby County, was the only time maximum points were achieved for the next eleven outings, a sequence that saw ten defeats and one draw. By the halfway point, Blackpool only had eleven points to their name. A markedly-improved second half kept their heads just above water as they finished just two points above the relegation spots. Football League Second Division
The Football League Second Division was the second level division in the English football league system between 1892 and 1992. Following the foundation of the FA Premier League, the Football League divisions were renumbered and the third tier became known as the Football League Second Division, while the second level was branded "First Division," below the Premiership. After the rebranding of the Football League in 2003–04, the second tier became known as the Championship, and the third tier became known as Football League One. Harry Bedford (footballer)
Henry Bedford (15 October 1899 – 24 June 1976) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward. He scored 308 league goals in 488 league appearances. Club career Harry Bedford began his playing career playing with hometown club Bonds Main FC and then joined his older brother Walter, at Grassmoor Ivanhoe FC in the Chesterfield League. It was here both brothers were invited for trials with Nottingham Forest FC in 1916. During the war years Harry made two appearances for Forest and also played in a match for Huddersfield Town. Second division Forest signed Harry as a professional after the war in August 1919. He made 5 appearances and scored 3 goals in his first season and after scoring 5 in 13 matches of the 1920–21 season, he left for Blackpool on 8 March 1921, for a fee of £1,200. Blackpool is a seaside town in Lancashire, England. It is located on the Irish Sea coast of the Fylde peninsula, approximately north of Liverpool and west of Preston, Lancashire, Preston. It is the main settlement in the Borough of Blackpool, borough of the same name. Blackpool was originally a small hamlet; it began to grow in the mid-eighteenth century, when sea bathing for health purposes became fashionable. Blackpool's beach was suitable for this activity, and by 1781 several hotels had been built. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales.
