1. Deild
1. deild is the second tier league of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1943. The league is organised by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It was originally the top level of Faroe Islands football but was replaced by the Faroe Islands Premier League in 2005. The league has 10 participating clubs. At the end of each season, two teams are relegated and two promoted from the 2. deild, pending the fact that the promoted team does not already have a team in 1. deild. In such cases, the team that finished third will be promoted instead. If a team is relegated to 1. deild and already have a side playing there, their reserve team will move one division down, thereby saving another team from relegation. Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag
Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag is a Faroese football club from Tvøroyri, currently playing in the Betrideildin, the top tier of Faroese football. TB Tvøroyri is the oldest football club in the Faroe Islands, and also one of the oldest in the Danish Realm, in which the Faroe Islands are a self-governing country. After the end of the 2016 season, it was decided on 15 December 2016 that the three clubs of the island Suðuroy, which are TB Tvøroyri, FC Suðuroy and Royn Hvalba would merge into a new club for the 2017 season. The merger will not be complete until 2018 and the name will be all three names together for the 2017 season: TB/FC Suðuroy/Royn. The three clubs have not been dissolved yet, they continue separately for the children's and women's teams. In 2017 it will only be the men's teams which will play for the new cooperation. Havnar Bóltfelag II
Havnar Bóltfelag II, or simply HB II, is a Faroese football club based in Tórshavn. It is the reserve team of the Faroe Islands Premier League club Havnar Bóltfelag. Reserve teams in the Faroe Islands play in the same league system as their senior team, rather than in a reserve league, but they cannot play in the same division as their senior team, so HB II is ineligible for promotion to the Faroe Islands Premier League and also cannot play in the Faroe Islands Cup. Skála Ítróttarfelag (Skála ÍF) is a Faroese football club based in Skáli, municipality of Runavík. The club was founded on 15 May 1965. They currently play in the Betrideildin, which is the top football league of the Faroe Islands. They were promoted to the top league after winning the 2015 season of 1, deild with 70 points. EB/Streymur
EB/Streymur is a Faroese semi-professional football club based in Streymnes and Eiði. The club was founded in 1993, as result of the merger between EB and Streymur. They have won the Faroe Islands Premier League twice and the Faroe Islands Cup four times. History The club is a result of a merger in 1993 between Eiðis Bóltfelag, who were founded on 23 February 1913, and Streymur, founded in 1976. Prior to the merger, both EB Eiði and Streymur usually played their football in the second or third division. After the merger in 1993, the team still resided in the lower divisions, but this soon changed. Torkil Nielsen
Torkil Nielsen (, born 26 January 1964) is a former Faroese football midfielder. He is also one of the Faroe Islands' best chess players. Club career He played most of his career at SÍF Sandavágur and after they merged with MB Miðvágur he played with the club which was a result of the merger, FS Vágar. He was an active football player until 1997, after that he just played a few matches and played his last match in 2007, just before the club was re-established into 07 Vestur after a merger between FS Vágar 2004 and SÍ Sørvágur. International career Nielsen played in an August 1988 friendly match against Iceland, the country's first FIFA-recognized match. Sumbiar Ítróttarfelag, commonly known as just Sumba, was a Faroese football club based in Sumba. In 2005 it merged with VB Vágur to form VB/Sumba, later renamed FC Suðuroy. B36 Tórshavn ( fo, Bóltfelagið 1936 Tórshavn) is a Faroese semi professional football club based in the capital of Tórshavn, playing in the Faroe Islands Premier League, the top tier of Faroese football. B36 Tórshavn has always played its home games in Gundadalur. Originally all Faroese football teams played on gravel grounds, but starting in the late 1980s the grounds were changed into second generation artificial turf. Leirvíkar Ítróttarfelag, commonly known as LÍF or LÍF Leirvík, was a Faroese football club based in Leirvík. The club was founded in 1928. They merged with GÍ Gøta in 2008 to form Víkingur, in the year of team's 80th anniversary. Miðvágs Bóltfelag
Miðvágs Bóltfelag, commonly known as MB, is a Faroese football club based in Miðvágur. History The club was established in 1905. In 1993, the club merged with SÍF Sandavágur to form FS Vágar. After the merger collapsed in 2004, MB was moved to the fourth division to start over. In their first year as a senior club in over a decade, MB demolished all opposition in the fourth division, ending the year with a 7–2 thumping of HB's fourth division team, mainly consisting of veterans who at an earlier stage of their career had played for HB's first team. Notable figures in Faroese football, such as Gunnar Mohr and Kaj Leo Johannesen played on this team. MB played in the Faroese 2nd division (3rd tier), after a disappointing season in 2007, ending up in seventh place.
