(Just Like) Romeo And Juliet
"(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet" is a song written by Bob Hamilton and Freddie Gorman, first made famous by the 1964 hit recording by the Reflections. The song is the first person narrative of a young man who plans to find a job so that he can buy his girlfriend presents and a car to take her out on dates. He fears that if he fails to find gainful employ, their love will fall apart, a situation he likens to the famous tragedy ''Romeo and Juliet''. The song is widely regarded to be among the final doo-wop singles to chart on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 during the British Invasion era. The Reflections are an American blue-eyed soul/doo-wop group from Detroit, Michigan, United States. They had one hit single in 1964 called "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet", written by Bob Hamilton and Freddie Gorman. The song was produced by Rob Reeco on Golden World Records. The disc reached number 6 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, and number 9 on the ''Cash Box'' chart. The record was even more popular in rhythm and blues locations, reaching number 3 on that ''Cashbox'' chart, and was featured on ''American Bandstand'' as a "spotlight dance". The Outsiders were an American rock and roll band from Cleveland, Ohio, that was founded and led by guitarist Tom King. The band released the hit single " Time Won't Let Me" in early 1966, which peaked at No. 5 in the US in April. Little Caesar and the Consuls is a Canadians, Canadian rock music, rock band, originally active in and around Toronto from 1961 to 1971. The earliest tangible evidence of a group by that name is on February 11, 1961, when they played for the Downsview Junior Teen Club's Valentine Party at Beverley Heights Junior High School, as reported in the February 23, 1961, issue of the Weston, Ontario, ''Times & Guide.'' Sha Na Na was an American rock and roll and doo-wop revival group formed in 1969. The group performed a song-and-dance repertoire based on 1950s hit songs that both revived and parodied the music and the New York City street culture of the 1950s. After gaining initial fame for their performance at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, made possible with help from their friend Jimi Hendrix, the group hosted ''Sha Na Na'', a syndicated variety series that ran from 1977 to 1981. Billing themselves as "from the Streets of New York", members were frequently outfitted in gold lamé or leather jackets and sported pompadour or ducktail hairdos. ''Ultimate Spinach III'' is the third and final studio album by the American psychedelic rock band Ultimate Spinach, and was released on MGM Records in 1969. Background A few days before the production for ''Ultimate Spinach III'' began late 1968, the group was disbanded for personal differences with their record producer Alan Lorber. However, the third album needed to be produced due to contractual obligations with MGM Records. Female lead vocalist Barbara Hudson and drummer Russell Levine were the only surviving members, while guitarist Ted Myers agreed to return after a year out.
